1977 Flood Protection Scheme

Following the October 1977 flood, the then Borders Regional Council commissioned the construction of flood defences from the meeting of the Ettrick and Yarrow Waters and down to the Murray Cauld. The purpose of the defences is to prevent flood waters from inundating the haugh land to the north of the Ettrick Water such that properties along Ettrickhaugh Road and adjacent to the cauld would benefit from a form of flood protection.
